JUNE 16, 2014 TACOP PRESS RELEASE

Towson’s Rally Against Crime Sends Strong Message

Hundreds of people are expected to attend Towson’s Rally Against Crime on June 20th to send the strong message that Crime is Not Welcome in Towson. Students, residents, senior citizens, families, elected officials and business leaders will gather in downtown Towson to show their support for the Towson Area Citizens On Patrol’s (TACOP) Rally Against Crime. Working in partnership with the Baltimore County Police, TACOP volunteers patrol the streets of downtown Towson and 25 local neighborhoods, monitor criminal activity and call 911 to report any suspected crimes they see while on patrol.

TACOP’s annual Rally will be held on Friday, June 20, 6:00 to 6:30 PM on Allegheny Avenue between Washington Ave and the Roundabout. Towson’s popular Friday night “Feet on the Street” block party will follow. Attendees are urged to bring their own chairs. In the event of rain, the location of the Rally will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church located at 120 Allegheny Avenue.

Highlights of the 14th Rally Against Crime ceremony include a Boy Scouts of America Color Guard and the singing of the national anthem, brief remarks by Baltimore County Police Chief James Johnson and other dignitaries and awards recognizing TACOP unsung heroes for their significant contributions to make Towson a safer place. Honorees include Delegate Bill Frank, John Falconer and members of Rodgers Forge Next Door and Rodgers Forge Citizens on Patrol.

Families are encouraged to bring their children to the Rally to enjoy activities like climbing on a fire truck, sitting in a police car and getting inside of a race car. Captain Dee-Fense will also put in a special appearance at the Rally again this year.

TACOP encourages the public to attend its Rally Against Crime on June 20. For more information, refer to https://towsonareacop.wordpress.com/about/. TACOP is a 501c3 organization founded in 2000 to help Towson Area neighborhoods start COP Programs and is solely supported by donations.
